The Project Challenge: High Fleet Demand on a Strict Roof Warranty
When a logistics and light-assembly company in Chicago West expanded its delivery fleet to all-electric commercial vans, their local electric utility tariff threatened to escalate monthly peak demand charges. Additionally, the building owner had recently invested in a 24-gauge standing seam metal roof covered by a strict 30-year manufacturer watertight warranty.
Traditional solar racking systems required drilling hundreds of penetration holes through roof panels, which would have instantly voided the building owner's roofing warranty. White GloveX was selected due to our dual-credentialed mastery across commercial architectural roofing and master electrical engineering.
Engineering Solution: Zero-Penetration S-5! Clamps
Our roof engineering team deployed heavy-duty, aircraft-grade aluminum standing-seam seam clamps that grip the standing seams mechanically with zero penetrations, zero sealant failure points, and zero holes. This allowed full solar deployment while keeping the manufacturer's roofing warranty 100% active and uncompromised.
On the electrical side, our master electricians engineered a dedicated sub-panel fed directly by commercial string inverters with integrated rapid shutdown compliance, routing clean solar power straight into four Level-2 48A commercial EV charging stations. Fleet vehicles charging during midday hours run almost entirely on pure, free rooftop sunlight.
Commercial Incentive Stacking in Illinois
By combining the 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit, 100% MACRS accelerated 5-year depreciation, and Illinois Shines commercial SREC credits, this 45kW project recovered 71.4% of total capital expenditure in Year 1.
Long-Term Results & ROI
In its first six months of operation, the facility generated over 31,000 kWh of clean electricity, avoiding $6,420 in commercial utility power bills and eliminating 24 metric tons of carbon emissions.
